Destination Hunts
Mobile App Guide

Mobile App Overview

What players see and do in the DestinationHunts mobile app — tabs, joining, and how the app behaves during an event.

The DestinationHunts mobile app is where players actually play your event. Teams use it to read clues, submit answers, watch the leaderboard, chat with teammates, message facilitators, and collect artifacts and collectibles — all in real time while the hunt is running.

No accounts required

Players never create an account or sign in with an email. Joining takes two things:

  • A display name (whatever the player types as "Your Name")
  • A 6-character team code handed out by the organizer (typed in, or scanned from a team QR code)

The app remembers the session on the device, so a player who closes the app comes straight back into the hunt. See Joining a Hunt for the full flow, validation errors, and session expiry rules.

App layout

The app has four tabs in a floating tab bar, plus a Settings screen reached from the gear icon in each screen's header:

TabWhat it's for
HomeTeam dashboard — progress, points, time left, quick actions, nearby challenges, recent activity
ChallengesThe challenge list and map — filter, open, and complete challenges
LeaderboardLive team (and alliance) standings
InventoryArtifacts (power-ups) and Collectibles
Settings (gear icon)Team members, event details, help, leaving the hunt

Location and privacy

The app uses location only while it is open in the foreground — it requests foreground location permission only and never tracks players in the background. Location powers the challenge map, "Nearby Challenges" sorting, GPS-proximity challenge activation, and artifact discovery. See Map & Starting Challenges.
