Teams, Join Codes & QR
Creating teams, how 6-character join codes and QR posters work, the team detail page, staff teams, and adjusting points.
Teams are created and managed on an event's Teams tab. Players never create teams themselves — they join an existing team with its code.
The Teams tab
The tab shows a card titled Teams with the count ("N teams registered") and four header buttons: Apply Effect, Export, Import, and Add Team. The table columns are Team, Points, Done, and Members. Each row shows the team name, its join code as a monospace chip, any alliance badge, a Staff badge where applicable, and a 3-dot row menu with Edit Team, Adjust Points, and Delete Team.
Empty state: "No teams registered yet" with an Add First Team button.
Adding a team
Add Team opens the "Add New Team" dialog with two fields — Team Name (required) and Team Emoji (optional, e.g. 🦊) — and a Create Team button. The join code is minted automatically; you never choose it.
Join codes
Every team gets a 6-character join code, generated from an ambiguity-free alphabet — the letters I and O and the digits 0 and 1 are excluded so a printed code can't be misread.
- Codes are globally unique across all teams and events, which is why a scanned QR alone is enough to identify both the team and its event.
- Players can type the code in any case — matching is case-insensitive.
- Codes are minted fresh whenever teams are created: manually, when an event is instantiated from a template, or during event import. Templates never carry codes — a template's default teams are display identities only, and every instantiation gets brand-new codes.
The team detail page
Clicking a team opens its detail page, with the join-code QR as the hero image and a subtitle like {n} members • Code {code}. Tabs: Overview, Members, Challenges, Activity, Chat.
The QR block offers two actions:
- Download PNG — grab the QR image for event packets and print materials.
- Full-screen poster — opens the standalone
/qrpage, a clean full-screen QR you can display on a laptop or print for a registration desk.
The QR simply encodes the join code, so scanning it in the mobile app fills the code automatically.
How players join
Players don't create accounts. In the mobile app they enter a display name plus the team code (or scan the QR), and they're in — see Joining a Hunt for the player side. Things worth knowing as an organizer:
- Joining is only possible while the event is scheduled or active, and before its end time.
- The first device to join a team becomes the team leader (shown as "Captain" in the app).
- The same device rejoining with the same code re-attaches to the same member — no duplicates, progress intact. A changed name simply updates the display name.
- Player sessions remain valid until 24 hours after the event ends, so teams can review results after the hunt.
Staff teams
A team can be flagged as staff (isStaff). Staff teams are for facilitators playing along or roaming the course. They are:
- Excluded from the leaderboard and never ranked.
- Excluded from completion caps — they don't consume a challenge's "Max Completing Teams" slots.
- Excluded from speed bonuses — they never take a place-position away from real teams.
- Able to use Facilitator Tools in the mobile app (apply artifact effects to teams from their phone).
Adjust Points
Adjust Points in the row menu applies a free-form score correction (positive or negative) to a team — the right tool for out-of-band adjustments like penalty rulings or bonus awards. For photo/video submissions, prefer the review flow on the Submissions tab, which awards points as part of approving.
Removing members
There is no player-facing way to leave or remove members — a player "leaving" only signs their device out. Removing a member from a team is an admin action, done from the team detail page's Members tab (a soft delete; the member's past submissions remain attributed).
Creating & Configuring Events
The Create Event form, the event lifecycle and readiness checks, event settings and realtime toggles, timing and timezones, branding, and export/import.
Event Challenges & Groups
Building an event's challenge structure — the Challenges tab, the challenge editor sections, groups and unlock conditions, the library picker, access codes, and stacks.
